Aromatherapy

1. What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile or vaporous plant oils, also known as essential oils, for mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

2. What conditions can Aromatherapy treat?

Aromatherapy can treat any condition! Essential oils that are inhaled into the lungs offer both psychological and physical benefits. While the aromas stimulate a positive reaction in the brain, the naturally-occurring chemicals, when inhaled, can supply clinically-proven, therapeutic benefits. These benefits not only extend to the respiratory system, but also the immune, digestive, endocrine, reproductive, circulatory, urinary, and nervous systems. On their own, essential oils are a very powerful healing tool; and when coupled with a hands-on massage, entirely blissful!

3. What is the difference between an Aromatherapy massage and regular massage?

The key differences between Aromatherapy massage and regular massage include the use of essential oils, the overall touch, and the order in which body areas are treated. At Lumira Wellness, we provide a unique, full-body Aromatherapy experience, targeting all areas except genitalia. Depending on which area of the body is being worked, the degree of pressure or touch will vary. An Aromatherapy massage (also known as “Aromassage”) will always begin with the head, face, neck, and shoulders. Treatment then progresses to the midsection, legs, feet, arms, hands, back, posterior, back of legs, and feet once again.

At our clinic, the minimum length of an Aromatherapy full-body massage is 60 minutes.

4. What kind of essential oils are used in Aromatherapy massage?

Only therapeutic-grade, organic essential oils and essential oil blends are used in Aromatherapy massage.

5. Why does the quality of the essential oil matter?

The quality of the oil is everything! Historically, our sense of smell has been the strongest and fastest of all 5 senses. It can invoke strong emotions and memories in a single instant, as a way of providing immediate information to the brain about potential environmental dangers.

When an essential oil is not of the highest grade, it is often not made with pure botanicals and/or is diluted with other chemicals, alcohols, and carrying agents.

These chemicals may then trigger a subconscious dislike, resistance, or negative reaction in the body, rendering the Aromatherapy treatment less effective. So, to maximize the overall benefit of Aromatherapy, we use only the best of the best – essential oils that are pure, organic, and created conscientiously from seed to seal!

6. How should I expect to feel after an Aromatherapy massage?

After an Aromatherapy massage, you could feel any number of things emotionally, mentally, or physically as the treatment will often stimulate many different areas in a very gentle and subtle manner. For the best results, we recommend that you allow the natural essential oils to remain on your skin and hair for the remainder of the day.

7. Is Aromatherapy massage safe to do during pregnancy?

Absolutely! All that needs to be considered is which essential oil(s) should be avoided during the different stages of pregnancy. The hands-on portion of treatment, may also be adjusted according to the stage of pregnancy.

8. Do you offer gift certificates?

Absolutely! Gift certificates can be purchased at the clinic. Inquire within or contact us for more information.
